Guidance to the tables

The tables show for how many minutes the civil twilight lasts. Civil twilight is the time when the entire Sun is below the horizon, but the centre of the Sun is less than 6° below the horizon.

Italicized numbers refer to polar night. At those times, there is no daytime between the two periods of twilight. As morning twilight ends, evening twilight begins. In these cases, the entire duration of the civil twilight is twice as much as the table shows.

Numbers in bold type mean that the twilight lasts all night. In these cases, the table shows the duration from sunset to solar midnight. The entire twilight, from sunset to sunrise, lasts twice as long as the table shows.
